Ocean Aimee

Aimee Jan, known as Ocean Aimee, lives in Exmouth, right next to the Ningaloo Reef. She has worked in marine tourism since 2011 and as an underwater photographer since 2015, which means most of her working life has been spent in the water on that stretch of coast.

She works on whale shark and humpback whale tours in Western Australia, and with a company called Just the Wild, helping people swim with and photograph blue whales and sperm whales in different parts of the world.

In 2021 she was named Ocean Photographer of the Year for an image of a green sea turtle framed inside a ball of glassfish, shot on the Ningaloo.

Her focus is protecting the reef and the animals on it, and teaching people underwater photography. She works on the principle that encounters should be respectful and should not disturb the animal, and that people who are shown these creatures properly tend to want to look after them.

Alongside her prints, she sells jewellery handmade from recycled gold, silver and wetsuit material.
