Grayson Hinrichs

Grayson Hinrichs grew up in Bondi and started surfing at six, after a surfer ran him over in the shallows. He stood up on a board for the first time that Christmas. He learned across Bondi, Bronte and Maroubra, joined Bondi Boardriders, and picked up his first sponsor at twelve.

In 2017 he took the Australian Junior title. By the end of 2018, at fifteen, he won the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship at Huntington Beach in California, beating a field of competitors mostly a year older than him.

He is a serious spearfisher as well, and has held a NSW spearfishing championship. He became briefly famous in Sydney after spearing a sixteen kilogram kingfish and walking it home through the streets tied to his skateboard.

Over three days in 2019 he found and rode an unnamed slab a few minutes from Bondi, pulled two swimmers out of the water at Bronte in the space of fifteen minutes, and landed a seventeen kilogram kingfish after his reel jammed and dragged him under.

More recently his surfing, diving and remote camping trips around the Australian coast have been documented in his film SURFISH.
